This week’s Gartner Magic Quadrant (MQ) release has stirred things up in the industry. While Kloudfuse wasn’t included in this MQ due to the criteria favoring more established vendors, we want to congratulate all our peers who were recognized. Your presence underscores the dynamic and competitive landscape of observability solutions.

As we reviewed the MQ’s vendor-by-vendor analysis, a few core themes stood out to us. Here’s our take on Gartner’s insights:

1. Breadth and Reach of the Solutions

Gartner’s Take:

• Comprehensive Coverage: Gartner has recognized leaders and visionaries who offer comprehensive observability solutions, including metrics, logs, traces, security, and real user monitoring, ensuring a complete end-to-end experience.

• Role Coverage:The breadth of roles these solutions serve—spanning development, DevOps, site reliability, and business roles—is also noted.

• Geographical Reach: The geographical presence and market reach of these vendors are considered vital indicators of growth and adoption.

Kloudfuse’s Perspective:

• Full Spectrum Approach: We agree with Gartner’s assessment that vendors focusing heavily on specific areas, such as logs or metrics, may struggle to expand their capabilities across the entire observability spectrum. At Kloudfuse, our platform provides unified observability across metrics, events, logs, and traces, with additional streams being added soon. We designed our platform from the ground up to address all aspects of observability and meet a wide range of user needs.

2. Pricing and Packaging of the Solutions

Gartner’s Take: 

• Cost Barriers: High prices from some vendors can be a major barrier to adoption and expansion, complicating the decision for potential customers and existing ones. Gartner even highlights: “Gartner is starting to see significant discontent with the budgetary requirements necessary to obtain the benefits of observability, resulting in a steady stream of questions from clients along the lines of “Is it worth it?””

• Complex Packaging: Convoluted pricing models and frequent changes have made it difficult for existing customers to manage their platform spend.

Kloudfuse’s Perspective:

• Predictable and Cost-Effective Pricing: We share Gartner’s concerns about pricing complexity. Our goal is to provide clear and straightforward pricing to make scaling easier for our customers. We keep our packaging simple and manageable through our Control Plane, allowing customers to maintain control over their price-to-value ratio in their own VPC deployments.

3. Innovation and Advancements

Gartner’s Take:

Gartner highlighted several key aspects as areas of innovation:

• Open Standards: Gartner emphasizes the role of open source and open telemetry in shaping vendor viability as the market moves towards open standards.

• AI and ML: The report highlighted the importance of AI and ML in advancing automation and accuracy.

• Unified Platforms: There’s a growing trend towards unified platforms underpinned by a data lake house to integrate all streams of observability, while managing scale. 

• Data Management: Advanced data shaping and transformation capabilities are now in play to manage high cardinality data effectively is now that it’s increasingly crucial for modern tech stacks. 

Kloudfuse’s Perspective:

• Unified Platform with Open Standards: We have built a unified platform with open standards, including open telemetry and open query languages, to ensure seamless integration and a forever access to data, helping customers avoid vendor lock-in. Our platform is built on a real-time observability data lake with advanced analytics and data shaping capabilities to manage the enormous data volumes created by cloud-native apps and microservices, which are common in modern tech stacks.

How About: Future-Proofing, Scalability, and Data Sovereignty?

In tandem to Gartner’s valuable insights, we also like to add these key factors:

• Future-Proofing: How adaptable are solutions to emerging technologies and evolving customer needs? Today, we are witnessing a shift towards the need for a connected experience—from the user level through the entire application stack. What future developments should vendors anticipate? How should vendors prepare for advancements like LLMs and Generative AI, and can future-proof architectures keep pace with these market shifts?

• Scalability without Compromise: How well do solutions scale with rising data volumes, user growth, and increasing complexity? As observability data volumes soar, customers often face cost increases and may need to adjust to new pricing models or data sampling techniques to manage their data volumes, each of which introduces its own limitations. Evaluating a vendor’s ability to scale effectively with growing data volumes while maintaining accuracy and data comprehensiveness is crucial. • Data Sovereignty: Gartner identifies data sovereignty as a crucial factor, highlighting the limitations of platforms with restricted data delivery options to specific regions, which can pose data sovereignty issues. As observability becomes more integrated with user experiences, concerns about “user data” privacy and compliance will intensify. At Kloudfuse, we offer VPC deployments to provide the flexibility needed for customers to meet their data compliance and regulatory requirements effectively.
